Contents page happenings - end of the lesson product

Contents page happenings

I created this little circle because I thought it was a quirky little touch that would stand out on the page, and differentiate from other magazines. I also did my first contents page sub heading! :)

i also had to get rid of the signature and replace it with a font, as when I made it white it just went a bit funny and wasn't very readable I also made the title white aswell instead of the lavender colour it was before as it fitted my colour scheme. Really happy with it so far!

I decided to flip my red too the other side, as i wanted the editors column in the red but not too the right, and then i wrote my editors column, how does it look?

microphone logo - peer reviews

I wanted my contents page too have a little more of a music theme, as i was worried it was looking a little vouge-y, so i drew a picture of a microphone, scanned it into the macs, and then i coloured it with black too define it, i then had too tilt it so it would fit in with my contents mast head, then i decided i wanted the wire too go down the text box(which i used as it split the page nicely) so i hand drew the microphone cable and im really happy with the result!

anything else i could do with it?

Mast head changes

i recieved a comment on my feedback that the Mast head should be a little bigger and the logo a little smaller, so i changed it and i also made my main image move up a little because i wanted it too overlap the title as this is a common sight in magazines, and i want mine too look authentic.

progress! - peer reviews

This is too show whats been going on with my cover, i finally found a mast head typography that i liked... its a bit more in your face which is whats needed for a title and i found a way to tie in music with the tape as it wasn't a very music related cover...

I made 'ophelia' even bigger because it wasn't standing out enough to me, but now i really love it!

the sub heading typography i changed because it was too swirly and fancy so i made it more stand out-ish and matched the colour to her jumper to make it tie in nicely.

I also added a banner onto the bottom to weigh it down a little as it didn't look very magazine-y but now  im so so so much happier.

i also made her a little larger as she is the subject of this magazine so deserves to be a little bigger!

Any opinions? :)

Back ground decisions - Peer reviews please

I've added a picture I took of the gloomy outdoors as the background as i feel it goes very well with the mood of the cover which is deep and emotional. YAAAAAY

what does everyone else think?

Sub heading decisions

For this I decided to change my placement of the main sub heading as it needed to be in a place where it should really stand out,  and it didnt do that in the corner, it also allowed me to make it bigger by moving it as i wasn't in danger of blocking her face.

Blogging away - Front covers

I changed the typography of my cover to something a tad more fancy as i feel the previous one didn't really fit the calibre of magazine I was going for. I also removed the star but im unsure wether to add it back in later, i will ask in my peer review.

Cover - peer reviews please!

WHICH ONE?! :(

Contact sheet - cover

These are the photos i took for my cover, the first is the one that i actually chose as I felt it was really full of emotion and eye catching.

Cover photo photo shoot plan!

Location
I'm going to set my photo shoot in the media suite down stairs against the white screen as the white signifies purity and light which a lot of ballads are about. I was going to set this outside originally but later decided that it wasn't suited to the feeling i wanted for the front cover.
Props
I originally wanted to have some form of musical instrument in the shoot as it is a music magazine but after further thought I decided that it wouldn't work out because ballads aren't particularly about the instruments but mainly the voice so the use of a musical instrument isn't necessarily needed. I may include an instrument
Person
I'm using Emma from my class as my model as she is attractive there fore she will grab peoples attention as they are browsing magazines. I will use the same model for my front cover and my double page spread.

Clothing
I wanted Emma to be wearing casual clothing, as I said earlier the clothing isn't important, its the voice but I asked Emma to wear light clothing as it would reflect a pure and emotional nature which is what I wanted Emma to achieve. I also supplied red lipstick for the shoot as I wanted a flash of colour which could portray passion and romance.

Positioning/Pose
I really wanted Emma to have eye contact with the camera in the shoot as they say the eyes are the window to the soul, and i wanted the cover to have a fairly emotional mood to it. I'm going to try an over the shoulder pose and face on too see which I prefer. I don't really want Emma to smile as it doesn't go with the mood of the cover but I may try a few.

So...

So... that my prelim stuff finished i guess, that was fun! but now onto the hard stuff, well i say that, i will probably enjoy it so it wont be too taxing. If im honest the prelim stuff was a lot more helpful than i thought it would be, i can imagine how my music magazine would look if i attempted it without the lesson we spent on photo shop, it would have been absolutely vile, ugly and plain rubbish. So im really glad we've done it!

Prelim photo thoughts (contents page)

I found the photos part quite difficult as i'm finding it quite hard to figure out the layers part of photoshop. It confuses me because as I said in my last post I dont really know much about photo shop so I will get Karina to go through it with me so I'll be able to successfully put in pictures to my actual music magazine without running into any problems.

Prelim text thoughts (contents page)

This is the text part of my contents page, i learned how to do text on photoshop which I know is going to be very useful, i feel as if photoshop and I are getting along a little better know as i'm beginning to understand its intricacies. I've also ways been a bit of a technophobe when it comes to photo shop as we used it in secondary school and I never got the hang of it but now Karina and Pete have taken us through it properly i'm learning a lot more about it and actually enjoying using as whereas before it was just a pain.

Finished Prelim Contents Page

This is a screen shot of my finished prelim task contents page, and i'm pretty please about it to be honest! I think it looks pretty professional in the way it's set out its not all over the place and the colour scheme even though it's not the ones I wanted actually looks pretty sweet!

Typography of my prelim

I chose this typography as it stuck out on the page and i chose red because it went along with the Farnham college colour scheme

This will work!

I've been thinking about who my magazine may appeal too, and couldn't think of a market except for maybe a small niche, but then i thought about the ballads and they cover many different genres, so i think that will be a really good thing to do because i will attract people from all different genres and maybe introduce them to other ballads with this magazine.
